Chateau Valandraud is a Microchateau started in 1989 by Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife Murielle Andraud. While Chateau de Valandraud is not officially classified it is considered by many wine professionals (eg Robert Parker and Rene Gabriel from the German wine magazine “Weinwisserâ€) as one of the best Chateau of the whole Bordeaux area. For the winemaking, he adopted the Burgundy’s techniques of punching of the cap in the fermenting vat (pigeage) and stirring of the lies in the oak barrel in order to get the maximum extraction for his wines. He does no fining, no filtration, but racking barrel to barrel every three months. With its meticulous viticultural and vinification regulations, the wines of Chateau Valandraud have quickly become the most renowned and most representative of the St. Emilion Appellation. This rare wine will certainly benefit from extended cellar aging, but may be enjoyed now as well. It is bursting with rich fruit flavors, layers of licorice and spices and it pairs well with a host of fine foods. This item in the 3 Liter format is extremely rare and in very short supply.
