Pinotage is a varietal developed in South Africa, which Barkan grows in The Tel Safi vineyard in the Judean hills. Here we have fine tuned our practices to produce extremely low yields of small berried fruit with intense spicy character and body. One lot from the vineyard stood out and was aged separately, largely in American oak for 14 months. The wine was bottled with minimal filtration and bottle aged before release. Barkan Superieur Pinotage possesses a deep ruby- garnet color. It has a truly complex nose of concentrated, jammy tones: black cherries; mulberries; and cassis, warm sweet spices – cinnamon, clove, cardamom, with overtones of black coffee, smoke, and dark chocolate.
In the mouth, the wine is massive and concentrated, full bodied with soft, velvety tannins.
